Richard F. Laskowski, age 89 of Windham, OH entered eternal rest on September 19, 2020.
Richard was born on August 4, 1931 in Cleveland, OH to Frank and Lottie (nee Nowikowski).
Richard was the youngest of 4 siblings. He graduated, from Holy Name High School in 1949. In January of 1952, Richard was drafted into the United States Marine Corps. He served 2 years of active duty during the Korean conflict before being honorably discharged in January 1960.
Richard married the love of his life, Theresa F. Laskowski (nee Paliwoda) on May 26, 1962. They enjoyed 54 years together before her passing on June 18, 2016. In addition to being a loving husband, Richard was a devoted father and a grandfather. While raising his children, Richard worked at Air Maze Corporation for 37 years before retiring in 1992. He was proud to be a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Pulaski Post 30, from 1960 until his passing. While serving as First Vice Commander in 1996, Richard was recognized as Veteran Of The Year for his leadership and dedication to his community. In honor of this award, he received accolades from the then President Bill Clinton, US Congressman James Traficant Jr, US Senator Mike DeWine, US Senator John Glenn and Ohio Governor George Voinovich. The Windham Township Trustee presented Richard with a proclamation, recognizing him as an Outstanding Citizen of Windham Township. In addition to his Veteran Of The Year award, Richard was selected and participated in the 2007 Honor Flight Cleveland.
Richard was also a member of the Streetsboro American Legion, Post 685 and a member of the Windham Knights of Columbus Council, 4433. Richard joined the Knights of Columbus in 1980. During his 40 years as a member, Richard served 2 terms as Grand Knight, 1985-1986 and 1986-1987. As an active member of the community, Richard was known for delivering food and vouchers from area food banks to families in need.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard G. of Freedom Township, Wanda Vergallito of North Jackson, Margaret McMurray (Christopher) of Ravenna Township and Bryon (Christopher) of Westerville; his grandchildren Rachell and Nicholas Vergallito both of Las Vegas, Nevada, Daniel, Connor and Sean McMurray all of Ravenna Township and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother Adelbert and sisters Alice Hutton and Euphrasine Lew.
Friends may call at GOLUBSKI DELIBERATO FUNERAL HOME, 4747 TURNEY RD., CORNER OF GARFIELD BLVD. FOR VISITATION ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2020 FROM 2-4 AND 6-8PM. Prayers at the funeral home on Saturday, September 26 at 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saints Peter and Paul Church at 10:00am. FACE COVERINGS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED AT BOTH THE FUNERAL HOME AND CHURCH. Private interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
