Sister Irene Koszarek, SSJ-TOSF, died July 4, 2023. She was 93 years old. She was born June 11, 1930, in Antigo, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Martin and Clara (Spychalla) Koszarek.
She was preceded in death by six brothers: Rev. Thaddeus, Stephen (Anne), Alexander (Dorothy), Andrew, Thomas, and Louis (Josephine); five sisters: Clara (Gordon) Mayo, Rose (Redmond) Marchel, Martha (Carl) Bombinski, Florence (Theodore) Hoffman, and Mary (Jerome) Wuller.
Survivors include two brothers: Msgr. Paul Koszarek, of Crandon, Wisconsin, and Martin (Toshie) Koszarek, of Yonkers, New York; three sisters: Sister Jane Frances Koszarek, SSJ-TOSF and Sister Elizabeth Koszarek, SSJ-TOSF, both of Garfield Heights, Ohio, and Sister Anne Koszarek, SSJ-TOSF, of Richfield, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
Sister Irene is also survived by the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis with whom she shared her life for 74 years. Her ministry included: elementary school teacher, principal, diocesan school consultant, assistant college professor, novice director, provincial administration, adult formation director and pastoral associate.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.
